📄 Abstract

Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy, where most of the population is directly or indirectly involved in agriculture. In this sense, arecanut is a plantation crop cultivated in several parts of India, which plays a significant role in the economy. In recent years, 2023–2024, the area under arecanut cultivation has been 646.49 thousand hectares and produces 1,486 kg/ha in 2023–2024, which highlights the effective management practices. In the present study focuses on a descriptive overview of arecanut cultivation practices, with particular emphasis on crop cultivation, selection of varieties and planting materials, land preparation, planting methods, irrigation, nutrient, and harvesting. Additionally, the study highlights the value addition through the utilization of arecanut by-products. Overall, the study can contribute to improving productivity and sustainable production in the arecanut sector.
