📄 Abstract

As Social entrepreneurship is not in isolation and it is an integral part of the social system, the role, nature and scale of social entrepreneurship cannot be discussed without taking into consideration the complex set of institutional, social, economic and political factors constituting this context because social entrepreneurship is an integral part of a social system (Mair, 2010). The constraint of forces comprising the environment, the social mission and the need for sustainability produces a unique form of entrepreneurial behavior that is conceptualized as social entrepreneurship (Weerawardena & Sullivan Mort, 2006) . Social entrepreneurship is likely to be strongly influenced by environmental dynamics, policy decisions and management initiatives that should be directed towards understanding and managing environmental dynamics (Weerawardena & Sullivan Mort, 2006). To build a social business model, it is essential to study how favourable is the ecosystem surrounding the enterprise. Many of the research studies and reports states that India is the hotbed for social enterprises for diverse reasons which gives the reason for studying the legal framework and the policies governing the functioning of such enterprises. This study intends to understand the present favourable ecosystem considering the Government policy and legal framework for social enterprises.
