📄 Abstract
Climate change poses significant challenges to sustainable development, particularly in a rapidly developing country such as India. This study assesses India’s progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 13 (SDG 13: Climate Action) using official indicators reported in the Sustainable Development Goals National Indicator Framework (NIF) Progress Report, 2026, published by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India. Using a descriptive and policy-oriented approach, the study examines seven SDG 13 indicators covering disaster resilience, disaster risk reduction, climate policy integration, emission-intensity reduction, industrial environmental compliance, and climate change education. The findings indicate progress in national disaster risk governance, climate policy commitments, emission-intensity reduction, environmental compliance, and climate education. At the same time, local-level implementation and institutional coordination remain areas requiring continued attention. The study recommends strengthening sub-national capacity, policy coordination, climate-resilient investment, and monitoring mechanisms to support India’s continued progress towards SDG 13 and the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
