📄 Abstract

This study examines the impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime and its acceptance among local businesses in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Using a mixed-methods approach with 70 respondents, the research evaluates the perceived effects of GST on business operations, profitability, compliance, and overall satisfaction. Statistical analyses including ANOVA, regression analysis, and t-tests reveal that GST has had a mixed impact on businesses. While GST has successfully increased government revenue and reduced tax evasion, local businesses perceive challenges in complexity, cost management, and profit optimization. Only 17.3% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the GST system, with 42.7% reporting dissatisfaction. The study recommends simplification of return filing procedures, enhanced government awareness programs, and expedited Input Tax Credit (ITC) claim processes to improve GST acceptance among small businesses.
