📄 Abstract

This paper examines the policy and regulatory frameworks governing AI-driven vehicles through a comparative analysis of India, the United Kingdom, the United States, and China. It explores key challenges related to vehicle safety, liability, data privacy, cybersecurity, testing, and public trust. The study reviews existing legal provisions and identifies regulatory gaps that may hinder the safe deployment of autonomous vehicles. The comparative findings highlight the UK's relatively structured regulatory approach, the fragmented regulatory system in the US, China's government-led development strategy, and India's evolving regulatory landscape. The paper emphasises the need for a comprehensive legal framework in India, supported by clear liability provisions, robust data protection, standardised safety testing, and intelligent infrastructure. It recommends greater coordination among policymakers, industry stakeholders, and researchers to promote responsible innovation, strengthen public confidence, and facilitate the sustainable integration of AI-driven vehicles into India's transportation system.
