📄 Abstract
The modern banking environment has undergone a paradigm shift driven by rapid technological innovation and evolving consumer expectations. This empirical research investigates the impact of digital transformation (DT) on the operational efficiency of select private sector banks operating in Coimbatore City, Tamil Nadu, a prominent commercial and industrial center in Southern India. The study evaluates key digital drivers including Mobile/Internet Banking, Automated Loan Underwriting, AI Chatbots, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) across leading private banks (HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Federal Bank, and Karur Vysya Bank). Utilizing a mixed-method research design, primary data was collected from 240 bank officials and 360 retail and commercial customers using structured questionnaires, complemented by secondary financial data spanning a five-year period (2020–2025). Statistical tools, including One-Way ANOVA and Descriptive Statistics, were employed to test the underlying hypotheses. The findings reveal significant variation in operational efficiency improvements across different levels of digital adoption. Yet, cybersecurity vulnerabilities and digital adoption gaps among older demographics emerge as operational bottlenecks. The paper concludes with strategic recommendations for private banks to optimize their digital investments while ensuring resilient and inclusive banking operations.
