📄 Abstract
Parentification is problematic. Siblings’ perceptions regarding the assumption of parental responsibilities by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) were explored. Using a qualitative descriptive design, ten purposively selected participants were thematized. As a result, siblings encounter stress arising from the absence of parental support, caregiving overload, and time constraints. Resource strains are perceived as financial hardship, uncooperative siblings, exploitative relatives, and communication gaps. Siblings develop perceptions of accelerated adulthood and parental inadequacy, yet demonstrate resilience and positive self-transformation. Themes of divergence from the Double ABC-X Model emerged through defiance of lateral authority, informal economic hustling, and physiological somatization of stress. School heads may provide flexible academic arrangements and implement student caregiver-sensitive policies. Multiple linear regression, mediation, and moderation analyses, qualitative inquiry, and Exploratory Factor Analysis concerning parentification may be pursued.
