📄 Abstract
This study explores the complex interplay between mobilities, inequalities, and technological transformations within the field of sports sociology, with a special focus on Maharashtra State. In recent years, Maharashtra has witnessed rapid advancements in digital infrastructure, sports science, data analytics, and media technologies, which have significantly reshaped the participation patterns, training methods, and mobility opportunities available to athletes. These technological shifts have created new pathways for athletic mobility—such as online coaching, digital scouting, virtual competitions, and performance tracking tools—enabling athletes to access resources beyond geographical boundaries. However, alongside enhanced mobility, new forms of inequalities have emerged. Urban–rural divides, disparities between government and private sports institutions, gender-based barriers, and class-based limitations have intensified due to uneven technological access. While metropolitan regions like Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur benefit from high-tech sports facilities and professional networks, many athletes in rural and tribal regions struggle with limited infrastructure, inadequate digital access, and insufficient institutional support. The study highlights how shifting socio-technological paradigms influence the structure of opportunities, visibility, and social mobility in sports. It argues that technologies, although transformative, do not automatically ensure equality; instead, they often reinforce existing social hierarchies unless accompanied by inclusive policies. The abstract concludes that understanding these technological and sociological transformations is crucial for designing equitable sports development strategies in Maharashtra, ensuring that the benefits of digital innovation reach athletes across all social backgrounds.
