📄 Abstract
Suicide is a major public health issue, especially among the youth, with socio-demographic factors like parental education and family income playing a crucial role. This research explores the relationship between socio-demographic characteristics and various suicidal attitudes among 310 senior high school students at Phinma-Araullo University in Cabanatuan City. The study uses a descriptive-correlational design, employing the Multi-Attitude Suicide Tendency Scale (MAST) to evaluate students' views on life and death, alongside their socio-demographic backgrounds. Results showed that most respondents had parents who were high school graduates, and nearly 40% came from families earning below 8,000. While students generally had a positive outlook on life, those from lower-income families exhibited higher levels of life repulsion. Significant correlations were found between the father's educational level and the students' attraction to life, as well as between family income and life repulsion. The research underscores the significant impact of socio-economic factors on adolescents' suicidal tendencies, highlighting the need for targeted mental health support and interventions, particularly for students from low-income families. Educational institutions are encouraged to prioritize mental health awareness and develop programs tailored to the needs of these students to mitigate risks.
