📄 Abstract
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common bacterial diseases that affect millions around the world, particularly women. Escherichia coli (E. coli) is the main causative factor of UTI accounting for between 70 and 95 percent of the cases worldwide both in commune and medical environment (Gupta et al., 2019). Classified as MDR strains, multidrug-resistant (MDR) E. coli strains are among UTI patients nowadays; an emerging public health concern due to the reduction of effective treatment options and more potential for su,ffering effects (Falagas et al., 2020). MDR E. coli strains show resistance to other numerous antibiotic classes, which leads to often inapplicable empirical treatment, as well as extended hospitalizations and increased costs of health care (Nicolle, 2021).
