📄 Abstract
The hospitality industry continues to face increasingly complex security challenges brought about by evolving physical, operational, and digital threats. This study examined the implementation and effectiveness of security measures in luxury hotels in Manila, recognizing that effective security extends beyond visible safeguards to include well-trained personnel, established policies, appropriate technologies, and coordinated management practices. Guided by the Socio-Technical Systems Theory, the study aimed to assess the extent to which security measures are implemented, evaluate their effectiveness, determine the relationship between implementation and effectiveness, identify challenges encountered by hotel security professionals, and develop a security enhancement framework. A mixed-methods research design was employed, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews involving hotel managers, security managers, supervisors, security personnel and other stakeholders from selected three luxury hotels in Manila. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods, while qualitative responses were examined through thematic analysis to provide deeper insights into the findings. The results showed that luxury hotels generally maintain a high level of implementation and effectiveness across key security areas, including physical security, access control, surveillance, emergency preparedness, information security, and personnel management. The findings also revealed a significant positive relationship between the implementation of security measures and their effectiveness. Despite these strengths, participants identified continuing challenges related to cybersecurity, staff development, technology integration, coordination among departments, and the evolving nature of security threats. The study concludes that sustainable hotel security depends on an integrated approach that combines capable personnel, effective leadership, appropriate technology, and continuous improvement to protect guests, employees, and organizational assets.
