📄 Abstract
Drawing from various psychological frameworks and empirical studies, this review examines how factors such as family dynamics, coping strategies, communication patterns, and social support influence the mental health outcomes of these spouses. The review further highlights the significance of emotional distress, maladaptive coping strategies, and the potential development of mental health conditions, including anxiety and depression. In conclusion, this review advances knowledge on the psychological effects of being together with a partner who has AUD and makes recommendations for future studies and therapeutic approaches meant to enhance the mental health and general well-being of affected spouses.
