📄 Abstract
Stress and mental health disorders have become a major global concern, affecting millions of individuals and significantly impairing daily functioning and overall quality of life¹. Conventional treatments, including pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, often provide symptomatic relief but may have limitations such as side effects, incomplete response, or high cost². In this context, nutraceuticals—bioactive compounds derived from functional foods, dietary supplements, and herbal products—have gained attention as complementary strategies for promoting mental well-being³. These compounds, including omega-3 fatty acids, B-vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and herbal extracts like Ashwagandha and Ginkgo biloba, demonstrate neuroprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties that may modulate neurotransmitter systems, reduce oxidative stress, and enhance neuroplasticity⁴,⁵. Clinical and preclinical evidence suggests that regular intake of specific nutraceuticals can improve mood, reduce anxiety, enhance cognitive function, and increase resilience to stress⁶. This review aims to explore the mechanisms, efficacy, safety, and potential limitations of nutraceuticals in stress and mental health management, emphasizing their role as adjuncts to conventional therapies and their potential in preventive mental health care.
