📄 Abstract
Language proficiency is the ability to use language for a variety of communicative purposes. Users with a good command of the language are considered to have a good command of it because they can grasp it without difficulty, communicate a wide range of ideas clearly in speech and writing, and comfortably engage with other speakers (Renandya et al. 618). Thus, educators agree that proficiency in the English language is the basis for success in academic pursuits. Subsequently, Trice reported that international students were isolated from local students and faculty members because of their poor English language skills. Indeed, language proficiency is a key to academic performance. A person who does not speak English, for instance, may not have an access to the majority of worldâ??s known scientific and technological innovations which are written in English. In addition, the importance of English self-confidence in the process of adjusting to an English-speaking academic environment in a socio-cultural and psychological level has been proven (Yang, Noels, and Saumure 487-506).
